Garden Helper

Ideal start date: May 1, 2024

Wage: $16 per hour, plus tips for any events worked

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, applications are required to be a Canadian Citizen and 30 years of age or younger.

Meander River Farm & Brewery is seeking a Garden Helper. Reporting to the owner (Master Gardener), the Garden Helper responsibilities would be, but are not limited to:

  • Operating heavy machinery, ie. whipper snippers, garden tools, lawn mowers, etc.

  • Landscaping, yard maintenance, weeding, pruning, planting and harvesting

  • Hopyard, flower garden, and lavender field maintenance

  • Landscape maintenance

  • Event support and special flower order harvesting/design

  • Carpentry repairs and maintenance for special projects, creating new farm experiences

  • Brewery/Event support

  • Animal husbandry (pigs, chickens, turkeys)

  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner

  • Outdoor project and task based work

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication

  • Ability to interact with public for farm events and during shifts to add to the farm experience for guests.

  • Ability to lift in excess of 50lbs

  • Ability and drive to work alone, complete tasks efficiently

  • Valid Driver's license, reliable transportation, willingness to commute (if not local)

Assets:

  • 19 + years of age (preferred but not required)

  • Experience with heavy machinery, animal husbandry

  • Interest in brewing industry and production (possibility to train in this skill)

  • Ability to perform project based tasks with the end result in mind

  • Green thumb or Horticulture experience

Brewery & Retail

Approximately 30 hours a week

Start date: June 15, 2024

Meander River Farm & Brewery is seeking a Brewery & Retail Associate. Reporting to the owner, responsibilities would be, but are not limited to:

  • Opening, closing, maintenance of retail shop and products within

  • Preparation of growlers, cans and bottles for sales, markets, events

  • Maintenance of retail/brewery spaces (indoor and exterior, ie. watering planters, some harvesting and monitoring of immediate surrounding gardens

  • Monitoring product sales and stock

  • Detailed, friendly customer service by sharing farm to glass experience with customers through tours, tastings, pouring draught, customer engagement, and point of sale system.

  • Special on-site and off-site events set-up, service and support (ie. Weddings, markets)

  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner

Requirements:

  • 19 + years of age (of legal drinking age)

  • Available to work weekends and some holidays

  • Customer service experience, as employees will be expected to share the farm to glass experience, farm history, local events and activities with customers.

  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs

  • Valid Driver's license, reliable transportation to Ashdale, willingness to commute (if not local)

Assets:

  • Knowledge, continuing education in beer, cider, spirits and/or wine

  • Social media experience

  • Restaurant or Food & Beverage service experience

  • Ability to perform project based tasks with the end result in mind

  • Interest in brewing/cider industry and production (possibility to train in this skill)
